Boosting Technological Literacy Regarding Radio Use Etc.

1.Purpose of the Project

In recent years, with the dramatic expansion of radio use due to the widespread use of cellular phones and realization of new wireless systems, the general public has increasing opportunities to use radio waves on a day-to-day basis, and there is growing interest in securing fair and efficient use of radio waves and in the possible impact of radio waves on human health. With this in mind, this project seeks to provide information to meet a wide range of needs so as to boost the Japanese public’s technological literacy with regard to fair and efficient radio use and the safety aspects of radio.

2.Outline of the Project

  1. Boosting literacy with regard to the safety aspects of radio

    With regard to the effects of radio waves on human health and on medical equipment, etc., this project aims to provide information that meets public needs by reporting scientific findings, etc. through briefing sessions and preparation of explanatory materials, as well as to establish a well-developed program of consultation services to respond to inquiries from the public.

  2. Boosting literacy with regard to the appropriate use of radio waves

    By delegating private-sector volunteers to provide information and advice and consultation services in a manner that capitalizes on their close connection to local communities, the project aims to work on a community grassroots level to ensure the fair and efficient use of radio waves.

3.Status of Project Implementation
