Outline of Industrial Facilities Emitting Radio Waves

1.Systems

The Radio Law stipulates that any person who wishes to install telegraphy, telephony or other telecommunications facilities which apply a radio frequency current of 10kHz or above to the wired system, or those using a radio frequency current of 10kHz or above such as industrial heating equipment, medical equipment and others, shall obtain individual permission as a rule.

Industrial facilities emitting radio waves are subject to restriction because it may obstruct broadcasting or radiotelegraphy.

2.Facilities Not Requiring Permission

Facilities that are determined not to affect radiotelegraphy and other services do not require individual permission. These include the following facilities:

  1. Those of the following that meet certain standards
    1. a)Power carrying cable facilities
    2. b)Two-bare-wire balanced type power carrying facilities
    3. c)Power line communications used solely for receiving purposes
    4. d)Inductive radio communication equipment that has an electric field strength of 15µV/m or lower at a distance of λ/2π from the transmitting line (where λstands for the wavelength of the high frequency wave in meters).
    5. e)Inductive reading and writing radio communication equipment that has an electric field strength of 500µV/m or lower at a distance of 3 meters from it.
    6. f)Inductive radio communication equipment other than communication facilities, whose high frequency energy is 50W or lower.
  2. The following equipment that has been specified beforehand by the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications as meeting technical standards (Specification of type):
    1. a)Power carrying interphones
    2. b)General power carrying digital transmission equipment
    3. c)Special power carrying digital transmission equipment
    4. d)High-speed power line communication
    5. e)Inductive reading and writing radio communication equipment
    6. f)Ultrasonic cleaning devices , Ultrasonic processing devices , Ultrasonic welding devices
    7. g)Document copying and printout machines using induction heating
    8. h)Electrodeless discharge lamps
    9. i)Non-beam wireless power transfer/transmission equipment
    10. j)Non-beam wireless power transfer/transmission equipment for electric vehicle
  3. The following equipment that has been confirmed by the manufacturer or other authority that the equipment meets technical standards, and has been submitted to the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications (Confirmation of type)
    1. a)Microwave ovens
    2. b)Induction heating cooking equipment

3.Public notifice of "Specification of type" and "Confirmation of type"

Regarding the equipment that was specified by the Minister for MIC as meeting technical standards, "type-name", "type-number" and "manufacture’s name" are notified to the public based on Article 46-2 paragraph (2) of the Ordinance of the Radio Act.

Regarding the equipment that was confirmed by the manufacturer or other authority that the equipment meets technical standards, "type-name", "confirmation-number" and "manufacture’s name" are notified to the public based on Article 46-8 paragraph (2) of the Ordinance of the Radio Act.
